Graduating!

Over the years, my studies have inspired a number of posts here on the blog, and for good reason. Learning has been a significant inspiration for me on a number of areas. Sharing what I have learned and how that has affected my thinking on a number of areas has been a useful part of the studies.

On the 27th of March, 2012, I registered to study with the Open University. Since then, I’ve taken eight modules, sat two exams, and handed in thirty assignments, comprising one hundred and ninety five pages, fifty nine thousand words, and one hundred and sixty eight references. It has been a heck of a lot of work, and a journey of learning that I will never forget, nor have ever regretted embarking upon. Six years of studies have come to an end, and my work has been crowned with my achieving a Bachelor’s degree – specifically a Bachelor of Science (Open).

I have stayed true to my vision of a multi-disciplinary approach to career building. Though the majority of the modules have been within the ICT field, I have concentrated on adding to my skill set with credits in process methodologies (such as PRINCE 2 and ITIL), while augmenting these with general ICT training, rounding it out with the mercantile aspect. Something I have kept quiet about here on the blog, is the fact that I have been making a Vlog, chronicling my last year of studies towards the degree. There are a few more episodes yet to come, but the ones that have been published are available in the playlist below:

I would be sadly remiss if I didn’t acknowledge all of the support I have gotten throughout my studies. My eight tutors have all offered great feedback and advice, guiding me through the modules they have taught. My fellow students have formed a community of practice, a sounding board, and collaborators on our common journey. My friends and family have never been anything but supportive, and their support has been monumentally important. Most important of all, has been the support I have gotten from my wife – I don’t think I could have coped with it all if it hadn’t been for her.
