On (my) politics

For the most part, I have stayed away from politics in this blog. That is not because I don’t hold views on politics – I do, and some of them are listed below – but rather because I generally find that 1) politics are out of the scope of what this blog covers, and 2) my expression of political views tends to deal mostly with things that are currently in the news.

The reality of my weekly blog posting schedule is that my political views generally don’t fit well within the confines of the blog. As such, I usually take to Twitter to express my political views. That said, I will take this opportunity to offer some of my political views, in order that you might understand some of where I come from:

  • Sex worker rights are human rights
  • Science is real
  • Trans women are women, trans men are men
  • Love is love
  • Socialist is not a four letter word
  • The state exists to serve the public, and should serve as a safety net to help catch those who are unable to fend for themselves
  • Trickle-down economics does not work
  • Progressive taxation rates are a good thing – if you earn more, you should contribute more, too
  • Health care should be socialised
  • Education – up to and including doctorate-level – should be available and affordable to all
  • Racism is not OK
  • Equal pay for equal work
  • The scientific method is the best way we have to ensure that we understand the world correctly
  • Believe and let believe

I could go on (and on, and on), but I think you get my point. These are deeply held beliefs.
