Software Spotlight: Spacemonger

Some software comes and goes, and other software is there for you for the long term. Spacemonger is one of the latter category. Simply put, it scans a hard drive and shows you what’s on it using blocks to represent relative file/folder size, like so:

I first came across it back in 2007 or so, and it’s been part of my toolkit ever since. It’s invaluable for finding out what’s clogging up your hard drive. For me, as a support tech, it’s also been valuable when trying to locate files that my end user has problems finding – it was put to that use only last week.

If you want to check it out, it’s available from CNet. A license costs $19.99, a price tag which I find perfectly reasonable for the utility it holds for me. Version 1.4.0 is freeware, and available from A+ Freeware.
