Scoring scales for reviews

As I mentioned in my favorite things post a few weeks ago, I’ve been a gamer for years and years. Going forward, I will from time to time post reviews of games that I play. I think it might be useful to be explicit about the scale I use. The scale runs from 1-10, as follows:

1. Terrible game!
2. Bad game! Bad!
3. Not bad, but not good enough to be mediocre
4. Mediocre
5. Average
6. Average plus
7. Good
8. Really Good
9. Great to amazing
10. Outstanding

The 10 is going to be the games that I come back to time and time again. It’s going to be rare, and most games are going to land in the 3-9 range. Any game that has held my interest for more than ten hours or so is likely to garner at least a four.
